6.6 seems really low for this kind of movie. I thought it was hilarious and thrilling. I like how they didn't make the aliens impossible to kill like in most movies, but still strong enough to be a match against baseball bats and fireworks. I'd give it a solid 8 or so.

People don't like the movie because the protagonists are "good for nothing thugs" and they don't see the arc/message of the movie.
shareAgreed. Totally despicable characters. Had the aliens been slightly more anthropomorphic I would have been rooting for them. As it was I just didn't care either way.

What made them despicable exactly? They robbed ONE person and they were more scared than she was. They were raised in an environment where the only successful person was a drug kingpin. They thought that that was the only way to stay alive. However, when you give them a chance to be good, they saved the planet

It's a solid 7. I always assumed it was much-loved cult film. I'm surprised by the amount of hate it gets. My only critism is the little dog died at the beginning. I hate it when that happens.

I didn't like it because A) the protagonists were lowlifes, and I had no sympathy or empathy for them because of it, and B) the aliens were so weak as to be almost completely non-threatening. A five-year-old could have killed them.
I've seen things that would make you want to write a book on how to puke.
The protagonists were young, immature kids who did something stupid--robbing that one lady, but she is the only person they do that to in the film, and those aliens were growling, dangerous-as-hell monsters. Just admit you hated the characters because they were black. Funny how I don't usually see this much hate directed at white characters who do even worse things in the movies.
