So many people are missing the point here...
I am a huge fan of this movie, since it has a really cool plot, great sequences, and the characters get more interesting and likeable as the movie goes on. From what I've been seeing on here, however, so many users really missed the point with this. Here's what I've been seeing as far as complains. Warning, there may be spoilers ahead:
The movie promotes street/gang violence:
I'm sorry, what? If this movie promotes street/gang violence, so does Boyz N The Hood. The movie is basically showing how all that stuff is wrong in the long run. I mean, do they say at the end of the film that "street violence is great" or anything like that? No, which leads me to my next point.
The characters are unlikeable jerks who never learn their lesson: this frequent comment shows how few actually paid attention to this movie. Moses essentially idolizes the thug life and thinks that can earn him respect and get him out of his (at least heavily implied) boring home life. He looks to characters like Hi-Hatz as role models, thus why he follows his orders and wants to be one of his supporters. Over the course of the film, however, he sees how this life can be more of a detriment to him than anything. It can cause people to fear him, not trust him, and not earn him any true respect. It's only when he realizes that it's because of his actions that the aliens have attacked the apartment complex does he finally take action. I mean, if he hadn't learned his lesson, would he have risked his life to save the block? In the end, he clearly has earned much more respect as a hero who saved the lives of many people rather than as a high-up gangster.
So yea, that's what I got. I'll be happy to answer any questions you have.
