This movie was hilarious!

Great, funny film that I really enjoyed. I recommend it. John C. Reilly was hilarious. Great job by him like always.

bump, go check it out.

There were no real side splitting laughs for me. In fact, I would barely call this a comedy at all if not for the efforts of John C. Reilly. He absolutely steals the show. His work may not be classified as side splitting but it comes really really close. We've all seen it before but not without Will Ferrell to partner up with and bounce ideas off. Reilly proves he needs no one else to be funny. Cut him and this really isn't even a comedy.

If Will Ferrell was in this movie I would've liked it 80-90% less. His characters are not believable-thus not funny.

reply

Agreed, OP. This might be my favorite comedy since "Forgetting Sarah Marshall."

The Green Hornet - 5.5/10
True Grit - 7.5/10
Black Swan - 10/10

Honestly, I enjoyed this film far more than Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

I enjoyed it a lot. much better than the huge mega budget crap they're releasing the past couple of years. I would rather see a small budget movie with a great script and actors, than a 150 million budget special effects stuffed piece of crap.

THINK !!! It's not illegal ... YET

But deliver a great script and actors WITH a 150 million dollar budget and you get the best of both worlds! (Ex: Iron Man)

reply

That rarely happens DUKEJBM. It seems the higher the budget, the lower the quality. For a comic book movie Ironman was OK at best. They turned Stark into a comic character, instead of the tragic figure he is in the books. Explosions and weapons fire every 5 seconds do not a good movie make.

Yep, VERY funny!

I concur, this was a fantastic movie and it was hilarious. I am in the midwest in the Wisconsin region and that added an extra added sense of hilarity to the movie. The whole set up, plus all the gang of "misfits" and the lines were suburb. I actually laughed out loud at it.

reply

Yeah, but only because of John C. Reilly, imo. Without him, this movie wouldn't have been that good.

I gave it a 7.

reply

Agreed! I don't know how it would have played without him playing his character.

What a sleeper. Just saw it today and agree that JCR's character is part of the bedrock of the film. Will Ferrell might have been able to pull off the rule, but JCR was ideal.

The film was funny, dark, sweet, vulgar .... and a bit of an homage to innocence ... all wrapped in one plot line.

Well done.

Agreed. I watched this movie with minimal expectations and ended up loving it.

I don't understand the people who didn't laugh, my husband and I had to pause the movie at times because we were laughing so hard. Highly, highly recommended movie for those with a sense of humor about life.
