too many dumb super hero movies...

why cant hollywood make some normal movies? these days it seems like every dumb film hollywood produces has to do something with gay superheros. wont be paying to watch this...

reply

Agreed, because spotty US teens are the target audience

reply

But doesn't this stuff sell better with general audiences in Asia, etc?

reply

Superhero films do huge business in China.

reply

Yeah... that's why I said that.
?

reply

You didn’t. You wrote “Asia”...

reply

China is in Asia.

reply

Then write “China”.

reply

I'm not the one who wrote it.

reply

I didn’t say you were.

reply

All the old movie tropes like terrorism plots and natural disasters and what not have become common real world problems. Nobody wants to see that kind of thing in movies anymore, so instead we have nice happy make believe fairytales for escapism. That's just my theory.

reply

Basically this.

Also, many people mostly don't want to see deep drama movies that are boring, sad or that are hard to understand (the kind of movies that are usually nominated for the "Best motion picture" Oscar). People go to cinema to have fun, and superhero movies are more fun. Same logic works for succesful horror (bad) movies and other kind of action. This is more entertained that some more "intelectual" movies.

Drama movies and other genres sometimes aren't that suitable for children, while superhero movies are enjoyable for the whole family.

reply

This from a guy called Borat.

reply

borat is comedy gold

reply

Fools gold

reply

what comedy have u made funny man??

reply

you didn't make borat.

reply

I enjoyed it

reply

And there are people who enjoy superhero movies. So how does it feel when something you enjoy is called dumb?

reply

everybody is entitled to there opinion. superheros are a pretty gay

reply

And borat is a movie for the easily amused.

And “pretty gay”? Says a lot about you.

reply

I had no idea people still use "gay" as an insult. So 30 years ago.

reply

It's totally gnarly. Totally. And not at all rad or tubular.

reply

You have no idea that "gay" has at least 3 meanings.

reply

a) as a homosexual slur
b) meaning happy or carefree.....if you're in the 1920's.
c) Bright or lively
d) given to social pleasures

Now, I realize you're not often asked to use your brain, but given the context of his post, tell us which definition he meant. Make a case he meant anything but definition a.

You cannot.

reply

lulz

reply

he forgot one:

f) pretty gay, like superhero films

reply

This is true. It's annoying.

But Aquaman is more an old fashioned fantasy action adventure.

Does not really feel like super hero films.

reply

This one wasn't dumb. Maybe you should try watching it before you dismissively pass judgment.

reply

i will never watch this dumb movie it looks gay

reply

How broad minded of you.

reply

And illiterate calling something dumb. Comedy gold.

reply

Borat movie total gross: $128m
Aquaman first week: $137m

Which is the dumb hollywood film?

reply

money aint everything. its about the art of the film. borat is a classic and will remain a movie watched regularly for decades to come. this movie will be forgotten about next year...

reply

Does anyone watch Borat now? I don't know a soul who even mentions it.

reply

Aquaman, box office doesnt concern us viewers , thats for the studio to worry about

reply

Respectfully, I don't take the box office gross as any measure of a movie's quality. I only care about whether I, personally, like the movie or not.

reply

i find most of the superhero movies are boring because they try to stick too much stupid comedy in it and the dialogues are unrealistic

reply

Superhero movies are NOT unrealistic!!

reply

I know right? I mean instead of making one movie that costs them 500 million (production and marketing costs), why not make 10 smart films for 50 mil each? And finally start spending some money on writers: the most essential peace in the puzzle. It's beyond me to think how a business model that greenlits half a billion dollars for a movie, but neglects its story, can be viable. But looks like it is, otherwise they wouldn't be making this kind of romp.
