'Aquaman' Looks to Lead Long, Christmas Weekend at the Box Office

Mary Poppins and Bumblebee expected to have around $30m 3-day openings.
I'm predicting $300M domestic and $600M+ internat gross for Aquaman, a billion or so global.

Expected to easily top the holiday frame is Warner Bros.'s release of Aquaman, the latest addition in the studio's DC Extended Universe and it is already off to an excellent start after a massive launch in China two weeks ago, and thus far generated over $266 million internationally after adding additional markets this past weekend. As for this week's domestic debut, it's arriving in over 4,100 locations with studio expectations targeting a $67+ million three-day while industry expectations are looking at a $120 million five-day performance from Friday through Christmas Day.

... That said, we've started to consider what could have been a $90-100 million three-day and translated that to a five-day performance, which puts us more in the range of a $110-125 million five-day. This then translates to a $70-80 million three-day weekend.

I think this is going to go way past 300 million Domestic. Wonder Woman's 400 million is the floor here.

Jesus are you going to live to regret this statement!

much like your Dozen or so guarantees Aquaman would have at least a 135 Million + 3 day OW....

so far Aquaman is about 68 Million dollars LESS RED HOT than you were expecting...

lets see how much it misses 400 Million domestically by....

reply

It just beat Wonder Woman for record Fandango presales.

reply

Yeah...this is a monster.

reply

Yeah...this is a monster.

no by your own words and Logic its a disappointment...

you claimed AM2's 75 Million OW was disappointing and that no MCU film should ever open below 80 Million, If it does its an under performing...

I can understand not putting the same Expectations on Aquaman as say the Iron Man Franchise,or the Cap Franchise or even GOTG...

but I think its safe to say, Aquaman should at least have the same expectations as Marvel Studios Weakest franchise in Ant-Man...

I mean if you cant at least expect Aquaman to be on par with The MCUs weakest franchise, then my god theres no hope...

So now that we've established Aquaman should at least have the same expectations as AM2....IN YOUR OWN words Aquaman is an Under performer...

Bottom line....in every way Aquaman under performed based on your expectations and logic....

first you guaranteed over a dozens time Aquaman would open to at least 135 Million over 3 day OW....you cant use Christmas as an excuse, You knew it was opening on Xmas this whole time...you simply thought that It WAS going to be a monster hit and was going to be RED HOT, so you predicted An absurd number...

and of course, Aquaman ended up being about 68 Million dollars less RED HOT than you expected...

and finally by your own logic, Aquaman couldnt even meet the goal you set for the MCUs weakest franchise....Aquaman feel short of 80 Million by 13 Million dollars

at this point, calling Aquaman a "Monster" is just not factually correct...everyone else can call it a hit or say doing ok , but "Monster" is gone...

as for you, theres not much choice queen, with Aquaman coming up 68 Million dollars less than you expected and Falling short of your own 80 Million dollar standard...hilariously for you Aquaman has to be A Major disappointment and a film that brings you nothing but embarrassment

FRIDAY AM UPDATE: WB's Aquaman is off to a strong start, bringing in $13.7 million from advanced previews, which includes $4.7 million from Amazon Prime showings ($2.9m) and as well as Real-D previews on Wednesday night. Thursday night's showings began at 5PM in over 3,300 locations. Taking all previews into account, Aquaman's total preview gross is just a bit behind the $14.5 million Thor: Ragnarok brought in for previews, yet ahead of the $13 million in previews for Justice League.

impressive, it has exceeded it's production budget by box office-wise bevor even opening domestic. Most impressive. A movie as smart as roller coaster ride but a lot more fun.

reply

Ha, ha, ha... With the lowest box office opening of a DCEU movie ever.Nice! Now the American DC fanboys are crying save me, communists, please save us...

I saw it on Saturday and the theater was about 1/3rd full. Mostly parents with kids.

Less than Spider-Verse which I saw the same day

I haven't seen Spiderman yet, but where I live the strong word of mouth is that Spiderverse is a great movie and everyone seems to be recommending it. Meanwhile, The ones who have seen Aquaman think almost the same as me, a flashy movie, that even with some entertainment value is mainly another meh DCEU entry...

Now, I want to see all this guys thanking and praising the Chinese for rescuing the latest crapy DCEU film, what are they going to say when these guys take over the world...

reply

I was surprised by Spider-Verse. It's actually much better than I hoped for.
