Theatrical Release for Sherlock 04.03
‘Sherlock’ Season 4 Finale to Play in Theaters
If the recent teaser trailer for Season 4 of Sherlock got you excited for the mystery series’ return (you can catch a longer trailer here), today’s news should have you marking your calendars for its finale. The first of three episodes, “The Six Thatchers” will play on PBS Masterpiece January 1st, followed by “The Lying Detective” on January 8th, and the finale “The Final Problem” on January 15th. However, your puny television screen might be too small to contain the epic conclusion of this season. Luckily, Sherlock is coming to theaters to air this particular episode.
“The Final Problem” will be screening in U.S. theaters on the nights of January 16th and 18th at 7pm local time. BBC Worldwide North America and Fathom Events have teamed up for the screenings, which will be available in about 350 cinemas nationwide. This will be the second time an episode of Sherlock has received a theatrical run, following up the stand-alone episode “The Abominable Bride.” As a bonus, the screening of “The Final Problem” will also feature 15 minutes of extras.
"The Final Problem” should feel like a closing chapter for fans of the detective series, if star Benedict Cumberbatch is to be believed:
“It might be the end of an era. It feels like the end of an era, to be honest. [Season 4] goes to a place where it will be pretty hard to follow on immediately.”
As for bringing the finale to the big screen, Soumya Sriraman, EVP, Franchise and Digital Enterprises, BBC Worldwide North America, had this to say:
“We can’t think of a better way to start the new year off then experiencing the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson on the big screen. The bonus content will be an excellent treat for the show’s loyal fans.”
Tickets to the screening of Sherlock: The Final Problem will be sold online at FathomEvents.com. Sherlock Season 4 also stars Mark Gatiss, Una Stubbs, Rupert Graves, and Louise Brealey. The official synopsis and more Season 4 images are below:
Season four begins with the mercurial Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch), back once more on British soil as Doctor Watson (Martin Freeman) and his wife Mary (Amanda Abbington) prepare for their biggest challenge yet: becoming parents.
