Is there going to be more seasons?

Is season 4 going to be the last season?

reply

Nobody knows at the moment. I'm hoping that shortly after S4 airs, there will be some kind of announcement as to whether another season has been ordered by BBC/PBS.

They may be waiting on the critical and/or popular reception of S4 before they make their decision to order more seasons.

I'd heard that Moffat/Gatiss had said there would be, and that Cumberbatch was on board. Though I've heard nothing about Freeman. But that news may be outdated or unofficial. As in maybe they are planning on it but just because they're willing doesn't mean it will happen.

I really hope there is I don't think I can live in a world where I'm not waiting for more Sherlock lol

reply

We have yet to enjoy the episodes that are in front of us. I choose to live in the moment instead of hoping for something nobody knows about.

reply

Probably but I read somewhere that it might not be for some time. Cumberbatch and Freeman are busy boys although Martin's schedule has cleared up a lot more of late

reply

Martin's schedule has been packed solid for years, he literally never stops, moving from job to job pretty much immediately. We just don't know very far ahead of time what he's up to because he doesn't do the PR thing. When he left Australia recently after completing Cargo he told one of our local papaers he couldn't stay for any sightseeing because he "still had two movies to make before Christmas". There's a reason that his fans are mostly pretty okay with the long gaps between Sherlock series, it's because we get to see him in so many other roles in betweeen.

reply

Well that's nothing new there's usually two years between seasons anyway lol

reply

I think ratings wise, this will showcase their best numbers yet, especially in the States. Thanks to Netflix, people have had plenty of time to get onboard. Every person I have encouraged to watch it, have not regretted it, and are eagerly anticipating next season with me.

I remember reading when they announced S4 that they said S5 had been greenlit as well.

However Moffat and Gattis don't have any problem with obfuscating when necessary so I take it all with a pinch of salt. I'm not saying that it hasn't been authorised, the BBC would be stupid not to, but with the hints that have been given out by some of the cast and crew I think they may be looking to take a break after this before they do S5.

Martin's always busy and with baby No 2 on the way for Benedict he may just want to do the projects he currently has scheduled but not take on much more so he can enjoy time with his children.

I think there was a 10 year break before Johnathan Creek returned.

As far as I know they had plans for a series 4 and series 5, but this was a long time ago. Around 2012-2014. If this were the last series it would've been announced as such, but it's a possibility.

Some BODY once told me.
