Starting this soon. Should I watch the unaired pilot?

Question is in the subject.

I like to power through series and move onto the next one.

I like the look of this because there aren't that many episodes.

Do I watch S01E00 or start with S01E01?

Thanks in advance.

The basic story/mystery from the unaired pilot was reworked for the first official episode S1 E1, A Study in Pink. And ASIP really fires on all cylinders, with all the key elements coming together extremely well. So you don't need to watch the unaired pilot to follow the show; you won't be missing any backstory from it.

But after you've seen a few episodes of the show, it might be interesting to watch to see an alternate take of how the show could have been done. (The episode length, look and feel of the series are all quite a bit different, even though the basic premise and characterizations are the same)

I say Definitely--definitely watch the unaired pilot. In it, you will see the making of the celebrity called Benedict Cumberbatch. Had the unaired pilot been the premiere episode, I sincerely wonder if he would have attained the degree of celebrity that he has.

dunno, he has quite a list of credits long before and after that.

No.

No need for it at all, most of it was kept in S01E01.

I'm guessing you want to get through the aired 10 episodes before Jan 1st, so put that aside. Maybe you can watch the pilot on a rainy day when you dont have anything else to do.

My introduction to the show was the unaired pilot, and in some ways, I actually preferred it to the aired version. For one thing, I think the resolution is a bit stronger in the unaired version, and the pace isn't as frenetic which is truer to the source material.

I like the Unaired Pilot, but it's not necessary viewing. The plot's pretty much the exact same as Study in Pink (1x01) just with different details, shorter running time and the lack of the music and aesthetics that since have become so "Sherlock".

I especially wouldn't first watch 1x00 and then 1x01 right after that, since they are the same story. If you like the show, watch it after you've seen all the "official" episodes.  I was introduced to Sherlock in Jan 2012 when series 2 aired, and watched the Unaired Pilot after seeing all the 6 episodes that had aired by that point.

Completely agree with Inglorious Sister. If you watch the Unaired Pilot before watching A Study in Pink, you'll be spoiled on the storyline and might not even like the series as well.

I also watched all of Series 1 and 2 before seeing the unaired pilot.
