Sympathy for Mycroft?

In the gun scene where Sherlock had to choose between John and Mycroft, I knew who he would choose, but did anyone else feel really bad for Mycroft? I mean, I love John and understand how important he is to Sherlock, but I was pretty gutted for Mycroft who really loved his brother, sort of just accepting fate and being willing to make it easier for Sherlock to shoot him.

TFP was very Mycroft-centric episode.
Some viewers have said he acted OOC in showing emotions but I don't think so. Mycroft has never had to stifle his emotions in the same way as Sherlock does for a case. Now we understand why he disregards emotions because he saw the traumatic effect it had on his little brother. He is dubbed the Iceman so as to not trigger responses in Sherlock. He has dubious methods but he is fiercely loyal to his family.

Absolutely the fact he'd choose to save some guy he's known for a couple years over his own brother is pretty disgusting in my eyes

being willing to make it easier for Sherlock

It was absolutely heartbreaking. I actually thought that Sherlock was about to shoot him. I'm not easily shocked, especially by fiction, but at that moment I was ready to switch the TV off. Kudos to the writers.

There is only one rational course of action in such circumstances. Don't make the choice. Don't play Eurus' game. If she chooses to kill them both the blood is still on her hands...

Mycroft felt guilty and felt responsible for the whole situation, so I don’t think he worried over it being easier for Sherlock to kill him rather than Watson.

Not sympathy, just mad respect. I always liked Mycroft but that scene made him a total badass.
