I guess this was bound to happen. Thankfully the cast is as mediocre as in the tv show so I won't be wasting time on that crap.

You're a fool. This is a comedy. I really like the idea of making a Baywatch movie as a comedy. The TV show was a soap opera that contained a lot of unintentional comedy, with poor scripts and even worse acting. Maybe the film can take advantage of that and make it more or less a parody of the show, where the situations are comedic, mainly because the characters take everything entirely too seriously and are unbelievably stupid.
All we've heard is that Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron are in it. We know Johnson can pull off physical comedy quite well, and Efron was pretty good in Neighbors. They both obviously have the look.
I agree, there are far too many adaptations, reboots and sequels out there, but this is different. They're taking the source material and completely changing its tone and intent.
Have you seen the short film adaptation of Power Rangers? It took the concept of Power Rangers and turned it on its ear, making it a gritty, dark suspense thriller, rather than a silly kids action show. It wasn't a straight adaptation.
