Yeah. I mean for all the hype Rock put into the announcement only to end up with someone we need to look up on Google, I don't buy this as anything but a disappointment. With Kate Upton, most people would have simply read the name to jump for joy, even with the people on the net who don't dig her, which actually amounts to a rather small percentage of people in the world.

Agreed with both of you. To me, maybe it's sort of telling that the budget on this, isn't all that much. I mean just imagine if was an "all-star" women cast. Daddario as Summer, Kate Upton as CJ, and something like Olivia Munn as Kekoa Tanaka. That would draw soo much more, not to much add some validity to the film, rather than just casting pieces of ass.
Or perhaps they're going for more of a harem of girls, rather than just a tro. Reprising all of the roles, Neely Capshaw, Jessie Owens, and so on. So maybe there's hope other can still be cast. Ashley Benson for Neely Capshaw for instance.
Regarding Upton, she may have a hefty price tag as a model, but I don't see that much price as an actress yet.

Pamela Anderson in her prime is a hell of a lot to live up to. But good luck to the girl. She looks gorgeous in that video to me.
She may pull it off, sure, but as it stands, it doesn't live up to the hype.
shareI kinda think it does matter that they picked an unknown. CJ was iconic to the Baywatch canon. And when I think of real life CJ types, I think of blonde swimsuit models, with Upton and McKinney coming first to mind. They're iconic to that type, so they'd have fit that iconic bill perfectly. Who they've chosen is that type, but is not iconic to that type and therefore doesn't really measure up.
But I suppose a good reason to cast an unknown for CJ is that if Summer is indeed the lead female character as was originally reported, casting an unknown for CJ would help maintain the perception that Daddario, the more experienced actress, is indeed the female lead.
I just looked her up. She's nothing special as far as the choices they had.
