Granted that there are many movies featuring fat women, these are not more than there were movies featuring fat men in the 80s. John Candy, Belushi, Goodman ring a bell?
The typical rant seems to completely disregard this. It´s not that these women are pushed under your nose; they are just taking up the same roles many males previously did. No problem with that. Man are usually strong and tall, women slender and curvy (to an ridiculous extent). Therefore a fat woman does not fit the bill.
