I won't dispute her star status in India. Does that really translate into star status in the United States?
Her show Quantico doesn't get quality ratings after all. Why are people treating her like the ultimate star in Baywatch when most people were going gaga over seeing Rock, Efron and Daddario in a Baywatch movie?
Over a billion people in India, dude. BIG AUDIENCE.
Probably best to promote her like one of the stars. No, she's not a household name in the US but she is becoming recognizable. And Rock and Efron are hardly getting less attention because of her.
At the same time, if they want to build a franchise, they should promote Daddario, Rohrbach, Hadera, et. al. more than Priyanka because Priyanka is the villain and least likely to return for a potential sequel. For Indian audiences, it makes sense to promote her more than they would in domestic and other foreign territories because of her starpower there. For domestic audiences or audiences elsewhere than India, it's better to promote what's the key appeal of Baywatch. To peg her as *just* as important as the Rock or Zac Efron in this movie as some people are trying to claim feels foolhardy.
I agree. She won't be returning for the sequel most likely. They'll surely add to the cast with the sequel but Daddario, etc. will likely return and thus should be promoted the most.
I didn't even know she was in it until I saw the trailer. And she's only in the trailer for about three seconds. Where are you seeing all of this promotion?
I don't understand why they couldn't have cast an Indian actress as one of the heroes or the love interest, instead of what looks like the rich bitch villain.
Surely it sends out a negative message (I'm guessing if Priyanka is an oil tycoon, she'll pose some environmental threat to the beach, but why couldn't they make the polluter an American?)
I don't think they are really counting on Priyanka as a star. She's undoubtedly hot which helps a movie like this. But I think the trailer showed that Johnson, Efron, and Daddario are the ones that they will count on to bring in audiences.
Daddario by herself isn't really a draw, but she is the more prominent Baywatch babe and thus should be a priority, both in marketing and movie, for a Baywatch movie over a non-Baywatch babe who just so happens to be a big star from another country.
