What was the reason for the fake image and sounds in the helmet?
I just can't see why that would be used on the people going outside.
To my mind, one reason was so that they could be sure people leaving the silo would clean.
Another maybe was that its a fail safe in case the dodgy tape trick didn't work, an individual would leave the silo and think fuck me I can take my helmet off like the sheriff, they then die in the toxic atmosphere.
It does seem like a lot of trouble to go through but then again making sure whoever leaves dies before they pass the hill and have everyone in the silo see that happen is a method of control and that's what silo was all about, the mayor and judicial struggling to maintain 10000 people and not have them rebel again, even if it meant suppressing the truth.
