White actors have always played Jesus, hypocritical?
Hypocritical camp racists are always the first to complain, deny and cry.
shareHypocritical camp racists are always the first to complain, deny and cry.
shareYeah, but I assume those movies did not make claims like fiction based on facts. I think all the movies about Jesus have always been regarded as pure fiction. When Morgan Freeman plays God in "Bruce Almighty", you don't get the same outrage.
When the face on the poster shows no respect for facts, people tend to complain.
But at least this show did not claim to be a documentary like the other one.
No, they haven't. Movies and paintings depict Jesus as a blue-eyed blond WASPy guy and idiots believe that. Charlotte and the other Bridgerton stories are fantasy like most romance stories.

There is still no real proof that Jesus exist, definitely not as what he was. Thus he is a symbol and symbols are adopted all the time. Anyway, it's not so far fetched that Jesus looked like any other person from that area now. Maybe not Israeli, as many of their ancestors lived for generations in the diaspora in Europe, but even e.g. Lebanese are far from being black. The people coming from there I know (famous example Omar Sharif) are all very light brown, you could call it tanned white. So I can see that a Jesus from back then easily transformed from light brown to all white over time.
shareJews were brown to tan with dark curly hair.
Sharif was an Egyptian of likely Arab descent. This guy is Egyptian also and he's clearly black:

Furthermore, the ancient Egyptians were black. Different ethnic groups originally traveled from the south and later intermarried with Asiatic people who traveled from the North - not Arabs who didn't live there at that time. Egyptians became racially mixed with the black Egyptians concentrated in the South or upper Egypt and the Asiatic-featured Egyptians concentrated in the North or Lower Egypt.
Furthermore, descendants have lived in Egypt for thousands of years and are still there. The Nubians are black and marriage with Egyptians was very common. Some of the Pharoahs were Nubian. Ancient Greek historian Herodotus wrote about their very close relationship. Sadly, Nubians living in Egypt today are persecuted and their land and heritage destroyed by the government.

I'll add that Ancient Egyptians painted themselves with brown skin. The most realistic art period was under Akhenaton where you find clearly black people.
Ancient Egypt was basically an African culture with similar cultural practices and artifacts like afro picks for hair, raised head rests for sleeping, female rulers, etc.. Black history was whitewashed or omitted in order to justify slavery by equating blacks with animals. Similar thing happened to Native-Americans and is happening now with Palestinians who have a very rich history going back thousands of years. I bet you didn't know the word "gauze" came from Gaza where the very popular cloth was made and traded.
You made the exact same post in the Queen Cleopatra page. Do you understand that blasphemy is an unforgivable sin?
shareIf anything, it's hypocritical the other way. If people are complaining white people are whitewashing, why are black people doing it with another minority?
shareWhite people lies are treated as if they're facts and are used to justify racism.
I can tell that you haven't watched 1 second of Queen Charlotte because the very first thing they say is that it's a fiction.
Bridgerton AND Emily in Paris are romantic fantasies with an idealistic portrayal of reality. For some reason, most people don't understand that romance novels are mainly fantasy and continue to criticize them. Male fantasies are superhero and sci-fi flicks. Do you think a woman wants to fantasize about a poor, fat, ugly loser living in a trailer or Prince Charming? Sheesh!
They should stop treating it as fact then. Let's be equal when it comes to what isn't acceptable.
shareI just started watching Charlotte. Funny like hell. And great eye candy - costumes, estates, cinematography, people, etc.. Plus good dialogue and music. They just need to add a few sword fights.
Total opposite of the horrible Star Wars Ashoka series that I just finished.
I don't like period pieces so that's a pass for me.
