Book reading haters should be banned from the movies...

Or at least very least band from giving opinions on IMDB.

At what point are book readers going to understand it is NOT possible to make a watchable movie that will follow the book exactly. Nor is it possible to create the same imagery that you create in YOUR minds eye when you read the book.

So all you book reading haters can all take pride in the fact that you made sure no directors will touch the rest of these books with a ten foot pole,

Thanks., you should all be banned...

I know where I come from, but where did all you idiots come from?

I agree with that. I am both a book reader and an avid movie watcher. When I a watching a movie, I take it from the entertaining aspect. I think it helps keep it separate.

I don't think the book reading haters are the reason for no more movies in this series being made.

For one, it didn't make a lot of money. Just a little over what it cost to make ... according to the movie's IMDb page:

Budget: $50,000,000 (estimated)
Gross: $55,092,830

Opening Weekend: $22,755,854 (USA) (18 February 2011)

And two, the two main actors had a falling out. Dianna Agron has stated that Alex Pettyfer stalked her, and she was terrified of him. I doubt she'll ever make a movie with him again. 

BTW: I am a book reader who loved the movie, and would love to see more made.

Look at the track record of book-to-movies that strayed away from the source material. Percy Jackson 1 and 2, Eragon, I Am Number Four, City of Ember, Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and others all performed miserably and either got only one sequel(Percy Jackson) or none at all. Book readers are your already guaranteed market but if you disappoint them then you've lost a huge portion and good word of mouth. I Am Number Four suffered from being poorly executed, being released only less than a year after the first book was so the fan base was still growing, and most likely, not marketed enough or to the right audience. Movie studios are perfectly capable of making a almost perfect book-to-movie adaption it all depends on their motives and desire to bring a quality movie instead of a cash grab. Warner Brothers had JK Rowling help on set with the Harry Potter movies where as Fox didn't want any of Rick Rioardan's input or opinion for the first Percy Jackson.

The 4th film in the NArnia series is being made. The 3rd and 2nd film did about the same. The problem with the Narnia series is most people read the lion the witch and the wardrobe, not many of the other books. so the target audience gets smaller. The problem with the series as a whole is the main characters shift so much while its all in the same world the investment you have in early characters doesnt keep you around for further books.

Prince Caspian performed much better in the states($40 million more). True most people either only read Magician's Nephew, LWaW and/or Prince Caspian and not the later ones for different readers. Just because the target audience unfortunately shrinks doesn't mean it gives you more creative license to wander the more from the original material. Dawn Treader was my favorite book it the movie could could have been so much better with more stuff from the book. True. The original four are only the protagonist in the first 3 books and are guests in Horse & His Boy.

I've only seen this movie and have never read this book but I can see both sides of this topic. I can understand that the visual format is usually always different from the book or at least much shorter. I became tired of the book readers going on and on about Under the Dome and how it deviated from the book. Actually it was so different from the book it became a completely different story so why even bother worrying about changes. I can also see the reason to feel frustrated if a movie changes a crucial aspect of the book...for no real reason other than they felt like it. Both sides have points.

I haven't bought/read any of the "Bones" books for this very reason, once I learned from book fans of major changes that were made. The show added characters that aren't in the books, and so I'd prefer not to get the two sources intertwined. I may get the books and read them once the show is off the air.

I saw Alien first then I read the book. It boggled my mind that they made such an awesome movie from such a crappy book.

Well, I'm glad they did. In my experience, it's very rare for a book not to be better than the movie, though I have seen a few.

The book is a novelization of the screenplay.

reply

No kidding?!?! That makes it even more odd that it was a lousy book though.
