A parent or legal guardian MUST be there... and you aren't going to walk in, hand over a paper, and start that day...

this is so unrealistic.

Movies like this pretend to be real life, but with the boring bits removed. Would you rather the creators depicted days-on-end of John's tedious admission to the school? Obviously not, which is why they cut that fat out.
