Indiana Jones aging makes no sense
It literally makes no sense that Indiana Jones ages to be an old man.
I don't mean it figuratively, as in 'the character is timeless', or any other pseudo-philosophical crap like that. I mean it LITERALLY.
Does anyone remember what happened in 'Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade'?
(Sidenote: Why can't these movies have proper names, why did they even retcon the first movie to be named 'Indiana Jones something' instead of just leaving it as 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'? It's almost as bad as calling 'First Blood' Rambo, Rambo 1 or 'Rambo: First Blood', when it's JUST FIRST BLOOD, for crying out loud! Some Youtubers should be spanked! In any case, 'The Last Crusade' would've been a perfectly good name, if corporations didn't want to MILK the fame)
Does anyone remember what Indiana Jones drank, or more importantly, what he drank it from?
He basically drank 'magical elixir' that not only heals wounds instantly (not sure if it works retroactively, would a new injury or wound heal instantly?), but also keeps the drinker from aging.
Of course aging still happens, but in such a slowed pace that for all intents and purposes, when it comes to other people's perceptions, Indiana Jones absolutely should NOT AGE.
HE DRANK FROM THE HOLY GRAIL, HE SHOULD *NOT* LOOK LIKE AN OLD MAN UNTIL 2200 OR SOMETHING!
I mean, I can't be artfhgbed to research just how long the aging process is according to the movie, but it absolutely should be slow enough that from our perspective, Indiana Jones doesn't REALLY age visibly.
Yet we see him as an old man in this movies.
Did everyone just FORGET the third movie? Did everyone just forget that Indiana Jones actually DRANK from the CUP OF CHRIST that has healing powers?
Why is no one else mentioning this? Indiana Jones should NEVER be able to be seen as an old man, unless he has come from the very distant future into the time period(s) they depict in these movies, and yet people give it a pass, even when criticizing the trailer of this movie (and even the whole previous movie).
Plinkett's review of the fourth movie is correct when it's mentioned that Indy shouldn't be just 'Harrison Ford' per se, and specifically old Harrison Ford does not depict the character as originally intended or in a way that makes the character shine.
It's less about WHO plays him, and more about WHAT kind of character he is. It's more about people, especially young people, being able to excitedly wish to BE him.
No one in the audience wishes to be old Harrison Ford, so they miss the mark here.
However, I think my point is stronger, because the movies themselves have written as CANON, that Indiana Jones shouldn't be able to age, because HE DRANK FROM THE CUP.
This means, that for at least three very big reasons, Indiana Jones, the character, should ALWAYS be youthful and young.
1) Because the character should be 'ageless', like James Bond
2) Because he DRANK FROM THE HOLY GRAIL.
3) Because the character is supposed to be a certain kind so people can wish to be him, and be excited about his adventures
Showing Indiana Jones as an old man MAKES NO SENSE from any point of view, except that they wanted to use the same actors to milk their fame and celebrity.
This is not good writing, these are not good decisions, and it seems that no one even understands the character AT ALL.
As a sidenote, I don't even really care about Indiana Jones - neither the character nor the movies have ever excited me in any way. I have a bit of a soft spot for the third movie, as it's clearly the best of those movies (the first is kinda boring and lackluster, just mimicking some old serials, yawn - the second is just satanic nonsense with gore and hell imagery, what the F? The third is the only movie that actually is more like a movie with some kind of story to tell, and Sean Connery is hilarious in it).
Jon Williams' music is the only memorable thing about this stuff for me. But has even he composed anything completely new and excellent in 20 years?
If someone like me, who doesn't even care can point out the stupidities and flaws of the modern remakes, there's something pretty darn seriously wrong.
As another sidenote, thinking how much money is sunk into every single movie, and how many movies hollyweird keeps churning out, it's kind of sad to look around in the world and see the dying kids, homeless people, single men that commit suicides because the world hates him for no reason, and so on... looking at the poverty, wars,. people and animals being cruelly tortured and murdered, starving to death.. and hundreds of millions of perfectly good money going to these movie projects, as if they're somehow CRUCIAL for the people's wellbeing.
