Violence overstated

Outrage is Kitano's most violent film, but I think people overstate how violent the movie is. If you're a Kitano fan, the only scene that might surprise you is the much talked-about dentist scene.

Great movie, though. It's different from Sonatine and Hana-Bi but Kitano's talent still shows.

None of his films are very violent. Maybe 10-15 years ago but by today's standards they're very tame.

You're exactly right about the dentist scene.

The restaurant scene is pretty incredible. People completely oblivious to what is going on, keep on eating. Almost farcical.
This is a violent movie, even for a gangster film.

I don't know. This is a brutal film. I'm not familiar with Kitano (may or may not have seen any of his other films), but at several points I had to look away. I guess I'm somewhat squeamish like that.

It's a bit over the top to say the least. Weren't the guys who used the dentist drill just supposed to rough him up a little bit? Is that their idea of just roughing him up a little bit?

Usually in gangster movies that just means 2 or 3 guys throwing punches and maybe kicking him a few times after he's on the ground. Like I said, that was brutal.

I'm not sure it's overstated. If there are movies with more brutal and cruel violence I have not seen them.

Killing Them Softly had a pretty cruel and very brutal beating scene. the most recent Rambo was far more graphic than this too. there are tons more violent than this one, im just too lazy to list them all.

I thought Violent Cop was his most violent and disturbing.. this one was partly a comedy to me, didn't find it that bad, alot of the violence is off screen
