just saw the 5 seasons for the first time

only for those who have seen all the series
lots of spoilers following

Got a pack of the first 4 seasons for Xmas, so watched it during my holiday, and watched season 5 too.
Show was OK, with some dense atmosphere, a few strong characters, some weak plots but not that much.
As for characters, Tom Mason is good as a hero, trying to do what's better for others but also his family - which can be a tough choice. Maggie is just awesome - OK I fall for Sarah Carter as she's cute, but she gives so much life to her characters, well ... Weaver is OK, old military guy but knows how to adapt to the situation and will defend his family (the 2nd mas). The 3 boys ... I'm not even sure which one is the most irritating. Anne is a strong point, being a civilian often hurt by the military policies, and Moon is a good actress. Pope, well check further.
The main plot could have been awesome, but some important points make it just good. The transition to season 3 with the arrival of the Volm, and the 7 months gap really irritated me. First it means the humans can't win this war alone, then new things appear, like Marina Peralta as Tom's aide (very annoying), "Paint face" replacing the other Skitter rebel (with almost the same face mark???), Ben has a girlfriend ... So yeah things happen in 7 months, but why not explain some or at least comment on "how ... has happened".
Then there's season 4. 2 weak pojnts there : the reeducation camps, just nazi like tactics with no real point to it, and quite unbelievable ; the Espheni have superior technology and harnesses, why would they brainwash the kids instead of harnessing them?
And of course Alexis and her cult. It possibly could have been a very strong point, but was badly developed. Lexi not wanting to believe her mother and refusing that the Espheni are destroyers make no sense, as proof is everywhere, Lourdes says that "this place" is a place of peace, thus admitting that war is everywhere else, and it's not the humans that are invading. So OK Lexi is under the influence of the Espheni overlord, but what we see is only discussions, not any mind control, or technology used to submit her. Then there's Lourdes, a nice character from the start, she becomes extremely annoying and stupid.
John Pope ... The "rebel" without a cause with a big mouth, always criticizing Mason(s) but staying with him and profiting from his organisation. He "fals in love" (if he knows what it is) with Sara for maybe 2 weeks and she is killed. So he goes berserk (hehe) and wants to kill everyone of his former allies? He shaves his head? He survives the explosion??? And he comes to Tom and does not kill him? Quite a waste, he could have died or quit after the 3rd season and left a good impression.
So I'd give a 8/10 anyway, for the good characters and overall dense atmosphere.
