Define "like this". A movie about breaking people out? A movie about wrongly accused people escaping?

You have Ford's and Jones' The Fugitive (1993) where a man on the run tries to clear his name while the cops are after him.

You have Butler's and Foxx's Law Abiding Citizen (2009) where a man is planing to get revenge on the outside world, although he's incarcerated.

You have Gibson's Get the Gringo (2012) where a man must escape from a corrupt Mexican jail and then come back and then escape again.

You have Eastwood's Escape from Alcatraz (1979) where a man must escape from Alcatraz on his own.

You have Dafoe's and Furlong's Animal Factory (2000) where a hardened inmate must get a newly arrived kid inmate out before he's eaten alive by the other "animals".

You have the legendary cult classic UK series The Prisoner (1967) about a kidnapped spy who must survive on a strange island where an unknown group is holding him and trying to brainwash him.
There's also the not so legendary cult classic US remake mini-series The Prisoner (2009) with Jim Caviezel and Ian McKellen with basically the same plot.

Then there's the everyone (grand)dad's favorite The Great Escape (1963) with Steve McQueen, James Garner, Richard Attenborough, Charles Bronson, James Coburn and Donald Pleasence about a group of POW officers in a German camp during WWII who are trying to escape.

There's more, but be more specific.

Sorry for not being more specific but that's the point exactly. I believe a movie may leave with a particular feeling that others movie of the same genre or with the same kind of story may not. I dunno if I'm making myself clear. Anyways, thanks for the suggestions.

I tried to watch The Great Escape one year ago but couldn't go past the first 20 minutes. I also watched Alcatraz about the same time. I liked it but not that much to be honest.

I thought Law abiding Citizen was almost an awesome movie, except for the ending which was rather cheesy. The Fugitive is a classic I've seen at least 4 times. At any rate, those are exactly the kind of movies I had in mind when I asked for suggestions.

I'll check the other ones. Thanks and regards from South America.

Couldn't agree more on Law Abiding Citizen.

Here's another movie that fits the bill then, Tom Selleck's thriller drama Innocent Man (1989) where he must escape from a tough US prison to prove his innocence.

There's also Jean-Claude Van Damme's In Hell (2003) where he must survive in a tough as nails Russian prison.

There's also Steve McQueen's and Dustin Hoffman's Papillon (1973) about a real escape artist called Papillon (he's even mentioned once in "The Next Three Days") who had to escape from one of the worst prisons in the world at the time - the French Guiana prison colony where people were sent to work until they die.

Those are the movies about prison escapes. As far as the "man who'll do anything for his family" movies goes:

There's Denzel Washington's John Q (2002), drama based on true events, about a regular joe who can't afford to pay for his kid's operation, so he tries to rob a bank, but it all goes wrong and the robbery turns into a hostage situation.

There's Johnny Depp's and Christopher Walken's action thriller Nick of Time (1995) where a man must assassinate a politician or Walken will kill his small daughter.

Then there's the creepy thriller The Vanishing (1993) with Jeff Bridges, Kiefer Sutherland and Sandra Bullock, about an obsessed desperate man (Sutherland) who's been trying to find out for years what happened to his wife (Bullock) who simply vanished one day from a coffee shop where they where taking a short breather from their trip.

Thanks a lot for the recommendations, AlphaBeta!

I own you.

I consider this movie a "mood" movie. That is, it makes an emotional impact, usually with the help of music. I love this type of film. If you understand what I mean and like it, I'd recommend Crash and Boogie Nights, two other movies that do the same thing, although the pace and subject matter are quite different.

I agree, maniuis! Just saw this tonight. Pretty amazing film!
