I would have started a new life with Olivia Wilde

What was the the point of the whole plot line involving Olivia Wilde's character?

She was a single mum and she seemed to connect really well with Russell Crowe's character, him starting life as single father himself.

Was it to show that Russell crowe's character could have started a new life with her had it not been for his determination to break the wife out of prison?, kind of like here's the easy life he could choose and spend with a beautiful woman?

That plot line kinda emphasized his love for his wife. Someone who genuinely loves another person, won't start a "new life" with someone else (for their beauty or whatever)

You always think a little better after you get a little relief.

I'd bang Wilde then go back to planning my now even better and more flawless escape plan.

In that context, banging Wilde would be in the benefit of his wife.

For somebody who started off saying they didn't get why Olivia Wilde's character was in the story you basically nailed the reason why she was there a few lines later, lol. It just showed this guy could have very easily moved on, hell his wife tried to force him to, with his life but he's not one of these well my wife's in prison time to get a new mommy for junior types after just a couple of years.
