I thought it was illegal to benefit/make money from a crime. Even if he (the author) ended up paying for the crime when he turned himself in, how can he write a book about his experience, since escaping from prison is in itself a crime?
shareI don't remember all the details about that in the movie, so just generally speaking : if you're not allowed to make money from crime, it doesn't stop you from publishing a book, appearing in talk shows etc. You're just not allowed to keep the money earned this way. It goes to charity or even to cover the damages you have to pay etc
