I'm a bit worried about Opening Date now The Finest Hours and Vacation!
This movie had a kind of great opening date before the announcement that The Finest Hours was moving to the same date.
I see a problem with a movie that only has main star well known opening against two movies that have cast with well known names in key roles in the other two films.
Its part of the decision making process for audiences to check if their favourite or recognisable actor(s) are in the movie opening that week or wknd.
Halle's movie has alot of potential, but none of the other supporting roles are known by a mass audience. Lew Temple, is the only other recognisable talent, and that is dependent people who follow The Walking Dead.
I feel as though production company and distributor are setting themselves up for a hard sell on this one.
I was really looking forward to seeing Halle establish maybe a little franchise if this is done extremely well. Which I have no doubt about re Luis Prieto and Lorenzo di Bonaventura, and Elaine Goldsmith.
I think Relativity's plan is to push this in theaters with The Disappointments Room, with Kate Beckinsale. But its Relativity Media vs Relativity Studio?
I dunno it's got me a little worried about how this movie is going to be pushed out to a wider audience...
I think the solution would be to open this movie Internationally a few days after US and get word of mouth going. I think same day opening is extremely had for movies helmed by just the main actor (and actress of colour, that's even doubly harder)
Let's hope the get creative on this one!:-)
