is that there is a provision in law called EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES. It means in very rare emergency situations a person may do something that under normal circumstances is illegal. For example if she steals a car to pursue the kidnappers or arms herself with a gun (even if she does not have a license for it) or kills some of the villains it is NOT illegal. She can claim extenuating circumstances and all charges are dropped. It is very rare that a person can do things that would be felonies normally and have no criminal charges but in these stories it happens.

Extenuating Circumstances is a REAL LEGAL TERM. In certain emergencies you can claim extenuating circumstances. Look it up.

In fact killing in self defense is a form of extenuating circumstances, its not murder.

If the events of this movie were to happen in the real world no criminal charges would be brought against the mother.

Yeah, like how she can't be charged for all those cars and people that she f'd up on the freeway. F them they don't have kidnapped kids. Maybe they could take her to Judge Judy, but she a mother and know what's up.
