Finally there is a horror movie with a happy ending! I was almost certain that the station master was going to appear at the end, and when he didn't, I was ecstatic. I'll never understand why horror movies always need to end with evil triumphing over good.
" I'll never understand why horror movies always need to end with evil triumphing over good."
Because they are made to be scary & unsettling, you know, so you are quick to turn on a light at the end with a shiver up your spine. That's when you know you have seen a great horror film, but it's very rare & that flash of remaining evil presence remaining usually feels cheap & tacked on. Every other genre good always triumphs over evil & it's very predictable, you know Batman or the lead detective always come out on top. Example: the new Die Hard film, you know for a fact Bruce Willis is going to kick ass & live to tell about it, predictable, at least with horror you never really know who lives in the end, except it's likely to be a decent looking female character.
You make a really great point. I'm more thinking of the endings that "feel cheap & tacked on". Like "The Ward" or "The Possession". A lot of times those types of endings can work, like in "Sinister" and "Insidious".
I really liked the ending, REALLY different and good:0) It saved the whole movie in my opinion but did leave me with a few questions... It was good though 6.5/10!
I agree I was cool with the ending, I really started to care for the little girl & the sister, so I was relieved they made it although if one of the dumb parents got it, I wouldn't have minded, for some reason I blamed them for letting a LOT of dangerous things happen that I believe could have been prevented. That little girl sure had a set of balls on her. I grew up in a house deep in the woods by itself, long dirt road off a highway and even with a full moon things get creepy easily at night. One time in my early teens I was out pretty far walking w/no moon pitch black with a friend, suddenly down an old path about a hundred yards away in front of an old tunnel we saw this small glowing orange light that appeared , I had .22 caliber rifle, we stood there in silence for a while first curious we listened & watched it move around to try & figure out what it was ,then as it seemed to get closer I'm not gonna lie I was sh!t scared, I started firing at it a few times & it still remained like a glowing head of a cigarette but no cigarette can be seen that far off that consistently bright & it still became closer, I couldn't even see my hand in front of my face it was that dark, so no person could have ever been able to see us and this strange light didn't stop after I fired at it & was really starting to get close maybe 30-40 yards. I thought what human would advance on gunfire(especially keeping a light on to be a target), Even with a gun & a friend I didn't have the guts to wait & see what this unknown thing was so we took off running and didn't look back about 600 yards back to my house. To this day I don't believe in ghosts or anything supernatural but it didn't stop me from getting totally freaked out. I had to watch the news the next day to see it there was any gunshot victims from the prior night but was none.
Like I said that was one brave little girl! I gave it an 8/10 it was a very interesting & original tale, well acted too. Way better than expected considering the feeling I got reading that ridiculous title, almost like a spoof. I wonder exactly who was the genius responsible for it, producers I guess, it's not even like the first Haunting in Connecticut was that memorable for the name to be a cash in.
If anyone still happens to be reading I have a question of opinion in horror films, If your outside or inside somewhere & it's pitch black why does everyone turn on a flashlight? It gives your exact position away to the threat, it drives me crazy. I would find something solid to put my back against(preferably a corner) & just sit & listen. I would never ever want a light on or a cell phone even, it makes you such a target. Is it just a movie thing or does anyone agree w/me?
Kind of long & complicated, the evil station master killed everyone & taxidermy'd them(slaves back in the day)kept all their bodies underground, the mom released their spirits to kill the evil station master's spirit(who was hung on the property) before he could kill the family, everyone was fine, you kind of have to watch it for the end to make sense, it's a long story.
I was surprised at the ending as well and expected at least the mom to die or the sister(which I wouldn't have cared), but honestly I like the ending and am glad there is actually a horror flick with a good ending for once. I get sick of sitting through watching for an hour or two only to have the main character die as that makes said movie feel completely pointless and a waste of time.
