i love how they put the 'based on a true story' tag under the image

of a floating girl. i hope this meant to be tongue in cheek of else i weep for humanity

If you seen the movie it would even more hilarious. They took this whole true story part to a new level. At the end, right before the credits, it shows you an actual picture of the family who it happened to. It was basically a bunch of rednecks that wanted their five seconds of fame.

It was an unsolved mysteries episode back in the 80's called Gordy's ghost

I remember that episode. After that, the family was never really heard from again. the kid got heckled by the other kids at school. So obviously they weren't looking to get that kind of attention. I believe the story would appear from time to time in ghost books. But it wasn't until The Haunting show re-did the story that they got back out there. I think they even played themselves in it.

reply

That depends on who you ask.

reply

actually the Bible is a work of fiction (it has a story about jesus walking on water, that a clue right there)

The "based on a true story" thing is overwhelmingly popular these days.

They also did it with THE POSSESSION, yet the only plot element that was taken from "real life" was the dybbuk box, everything else was just made up.
