Riiiight...

Too many horror films claiming they are based on true stories today. This one is no different. I remember seeing this story on Unsolved Mysteries, I believe. There was Mr. Gordy and a dark figure, but no talk of slaves, etc. Also, if you check out the mother's (Lisa Wyrick) facebook page, she has posted pictures taken at a Halloween party back in 2009 where they are obviously poking fun at the whole story. Heidi is even wearing makeup to represent the scratches she received as a child "from the unknown". If I was a child and some unseen force scratched my face, I hardly think I'd grow up to make fun of it. I just don't buy it. Just another family making money off a false claim.
Oh, and Haunting in Connecticut 1, just ask author Ray Garton and he'll fill you in on all the so called facts about that family as well as the Warrens. Some people will do anything for a dollar.

I don't know if the original intention was a hoax. I think maybe Heidi wyrick suffered from a real mental disorder where she imagined things and then the family saw it as an opportunity to be famous, or rich, or just to trick people. Then it probably became bigger than they intended so they just decided as a family to just go for it, write a book, get on TV, etc.

This is how hoaxes like the Loch Ness Monster and crop circles started. It just spins out of control and takes a life of its own. Anyway, this was a stupid movie and the Wyricks are stupid people.
