Who saw the original 'A Haunting in Georgia?'

I've seen it a couple times, and I don't think that they can replicate it. Half of the scariness came from Anthony Call's narration in the background. He just has that eery voice that any "A Haunting" fan would remember easily. I had similar feelings with "A Haunting in Connecticut" when it was remade. Hollywood tends to sensationalize stories loosely based on eyewitness accounts of those involved. They exaggerate and as a result, seemingly plausible hauntings look like total hoaxes. Amityville Horror also comes to mind.

In the 2002 documentary, the actual Wyrick family was interviewed, and they really made me believe their story. Lisa even played herself in the re-enactment scenes. Also, why is it called "The Haunting in Connecticut 2?" It doesn't even take place in Connecticut.

I actually first heard this story on Unsolved Mysteries way back when I was a kid. Robert Stack's voice always gave me the creeps back then so that added to it.

"And in this moment, I swear we are infinite."

I just watched the Discovery episode and wanted to find out more about the Wyrick family. I was surprised to see they made this into a movie too.

Whatever happened to the Wyrick family? They should form their own paranormal investigators team.

reply

That's where I first heard about it before I saw the TV film on the story. This film pretty much destroyed the facts and made up a lot of junk for shock value.

They went out of their way to make Mr. Gordy scary when Heidi, the real Heidi, made it very clear that there was nothing scary about him.

The TV version is far superior to this.

"Mr. Treehorn treats objects like women, man."

I loved Robert Stack.

I saw both documentaries years ago and they both scared the hell out of me.they were excellent. Then I saw that Hollywood crapfest Connecticut and couldn't believe they forgot to put in the scary parts.Dont have any interest in this one since the title change.Keep checking back to read other reviews and so far its what I thought....nothing positive.
Don't try and threaten me, Mulder! I've watched presidents die!

What are the documentaries called? Are they online to watch get anywhere.

reply

You can probably find them online, but I've also seen a double feature with both of them in the $5 bin at walmart. And they play on TV a good bit.

the documented isn't worth 10 cents.

reply

Yes, and the re-enactments were better than the acting in this crapfest.

"You liked Rashomon."
"That's not how I remember it."

Whether it's Hollywood or the so-called documentaries, they all embellish to try to make the subject matter more interesting. They don't always succeed. The Amityville Horror was a complete fabrication made up by the Lutz Family and Butch DeFeo's Lawyer.

reply

Amityville wasn't a complete fabrication. They just exaggerated a lot.

Jeez I would give the film a break eh?.. This is a True Story..A true story of a Young Couple with a little girl, who`s Aunt lived on the Property in her Trailer Van..
Lisa had the sparks of her mothers gift, and also Heidi their little Girl showed signs of the gift too. Her Aunt Joyce was gifted too .. We have three females in the family who moved into their home ..only to find that it had a history.. firstly history with a good side, but unfortunately also a darker side. God think if this TRUE story all your family lived this .. No it wasnt a special effects and fake blood.. slashing and moments of hiding behind a cushion cos u know some monster with a "mask" like Friday 13th..,,

The film was beautifully created with a sense and feel of knowing all .. of this actually Happened.. that 3 females ..all with a gift.. piece by piece, unearthed a part of history which helped so many slaves find the freedom and liberty of a new start in life.. that itself is a story, Just as the story where a Man who Once Was Captain of a Ship that brought people across the ocean to become slaves and treated as animals..He had a kind of vision, and so quick he felt and realised what a monster he was ..these were human beings from a far away land from America..filled with a sense of heavy guilt he turned his life around and from that moment on he did all he could to at least try give something good back, and lived the rest of his days helping the slaves to set them free. He wrote a Poem and it started with the words Amazing Grace... Thats where the Christian hymn adapted that poem to become one of the most famous hymns of all time..

So that piece of history this filmed showed ..maybe someone will find inspiration to want to direct a movie all about these underground trains.. Just as the Poem Amazing Grace was made into a movie..

It was a horror, but a mystery and inspired by true events.. So it didn't need anything spectacular or over dramatic.. It was believable, and emotional, spiritual and historic feel too..The Director for me truly achieved to have found the true essence of this true event and created a pretty damn good ..awesome Movie.

Maybe people should create genres of all Horror Films zombie, slasher, paranormal, fantasy, mystery, supernatural etc..

So maybe alot of people are going to be expecting a good scary horror with knives monsters blood and scares..
this isnt that type of horror movie.. I really enjoyed it ..it was well acted witha very young actress that played an excellent Heidi, and the storyline had a good sense of you realising it was running a longer course with every new discovery..
I gave it an 8/10
