The pictures at the end, Seriously***SPOILERS*

Do they really want us to buy this as truth? I can see the back story about the property & it being a station for slaves to pass through, but in truth it was a corrupt taxidermist that starved & dehydrated their bodies underground. They want us to believe that sh!t?

That portion of the story was completely Hollywood. The true part of the story was all the stuff with mr. gordy and the little girl.

This movie has virtually nothing to do with the actual Wyrick family other than their names.

Yeah, the photos were a hoot. Something tells me the real people weren't quite as fit as the movie would have you believe.

Just a photo of a bunch of rednecks who wanted their 5 minutes of fame. That photo was the dumbest thing ever.

This story was told originally on an episode of Unsolved Mysteries. The real story goes that the family moved into this old house. The little girl, Heidi, started saying that an older man named Mr.Gordy would push her on the swing that was just outside on a tree that was in the lawn. She even claimed that Mr. Gordy would help her ride her bike. Later she also started to see another man that she said was named, Con. Con's apparition first showed up at the front door wearing a white shirt with blood all over it. Con and Gordy were not evil but good spirits.

Heidi's mom, Lisa, had a sister that just happened to move next door. Lisa mentioned both Con and Gordy to her. The house the sister lived in used to be Mr. Gordy's. There were no pictures of Gordy in existence. The sister contacted a family member of Gordy's and it turned out Heidi's description of him was correct. Later the former owner of the sister's home showed up with pictures of family members. Heidi recognized Con from the photos. Turned up Con had died of cancer but he had lost his hand in an accident at a cotton gin and that's what Heidi has seen. Heidi continued to see both men for the next four years.

Eventually Lisa became pregnant and that's when something evil started to show up. Heidi started to see a dark figure that appeared in the hallway. It was the only thing Heidi had ever been afraid of. Later Lisa gave birth to Jordan. After that Heidi woke up with three scratches on her face. It was first believed that she probably scratched herself while sleeping. But later the dad got scratched as well. they believed it was caused by the dark entity.

Today, Heidi says she no longer sees Mr. Gordy or Con but that she still sees the dark entity from time to time. They no longer live on that property. heidi always felt Mr. Gordy was protecting her.

I think since then the story has changed a little. The mom, Lisa recently did an interview on the radio show Darkness on the Edge of Town last week. She discusses the story and of course how the movie got Hollywoodized. The host of the show said he was going to do a review of the movie the following night. He never did, guess he didn't like it.

i think they should have used "inspired by" instead of "based on" and they def shouldnt include the photo with names cause it suggests the events actually happened to them!

reply

Those two terms mean exactly the same thing. "Embellishment of a story that some people have actually been going around telling people" regardless of the truth of the matter.

Interesting, thanks! Anyone got a link to that radio show?

I think they did the smart thing by filling out the story, after all it has to be entertaining, and they did it well.

I think the pictures in the end tried to show us that the family ate the bad guys

Just long enough to make it from the movie poster to a seat in a theater. After that they don't care.
