I grew up in MS not too far from Jackson. I knew plenty of girls/women like Hilly even have a few in the family. They pose a sweet southern baptist church-going girl yet will tear you down without a second thought.

Women like Hilly are nothing new. They’ve been around since the dawn of time and they will continue to exist in every church, school, workplace and neighborhood. Some women outgrow it, but others are just born to be bullies. I just don’t understand how you can sleep at night though, if you are a person like that - especially when she wouldn’t give her maid a loan. It was bad enough that she wouldn’t help her, but she had to be such a jerk about it…just disgusting. And the way she treated Celia was unforgivable.
