I never really understood why Miss Hilly cried so much at what Maibelleine said. Was it because she realised that her whole life was built on lies and manipulation? Or was it because she will be spending the rest of her life with the knowledge that she has eaten a black woman's pile of sh*t?

Because Aibeleen called her a Godless woman. Which is true.

She cried because "Aibileen" said, "Aren't you tired? Aren't you tired? (of all the hating)" And she was really tired. So the tears started coming out.
