I kept putting watching this movie off cos I knew I'd need a box of tissues....

AND I WAS RIGHT!!!

I loved this movie and am going to get the kindle book as soon as I finish here as an earlier post says it's heaps better.

Sissy S. as Hilly's mother cracked me up and Hilly needed a good kick in the ass!

Thank *beep* women have more backbone now (well alot more women! Lol) no way I'd let someone like Hilly tell me how to run my life!

It's just a shame that bias and hate is still so widespread.

Loved Celia and Skeeter and Abbey and Minny and hopefully in the book it gives more info on where and how they ended up.

the women working as domestics did not have "options" re Hilly etc ordering them around. Many other jobs were legally shut off to them at that time.

Trying to resist as a member of a subordinate group isn't as simple as mouthing off to somebody--even when you are upset/they have done something to you....including things which are wrong.

I agree it's a shame that bias of various kinds is very widespread. It does suck when it personally happens. Figuring out when and how to resist is important. Laws give tools how to do this that the women in the story did not have. But they don't take away the existence of bias. This is what people forget.
