Questions for people who've read the book (SPOILERS)
The film was intentionally confusing, withholding secrets and mysteries to keep us engaged. I just want to see if what I understood by the end was correct.
> As a child, Bruce pushed his brother down a ...coal-pit? (sorry not familiar with the mining industry) which resulted in his death and he did it out of jealousy.
> Following this, his father told him he was "filth" which is how he came to perceive himself thereafter.
> At some point he married and had a kid. Did he manipulate his wife into agreeing to an open relationship so he could continue to have his fun? I felt that was insinuated at some point.
> His wife leaves him for another guy, a black guy, which is why he's disgusted by interracial sex in a couple of scenes in the film.
> Because his wife left him he convinces himself he can win her back through getting the promotion.
> He gets off on seducing women who are unavailable, especially the wives of his friends and colleagues. Is this a reaction to someone stealing his wife? Or was he like that before and that's why she left him?
> His cocaine addiction – when did that start exactly? Was he on coke before she left? Was it a result of her leaving?
> Is he homosexual? Or more probably bisexual? It's clear he loved his wife and is attracted to women but with the cross-dresssing – is that a manifestation of latent homosexuality or just another aspect to his dealing with the loss of his wife?
> The hallucinations imply his coke addiction is a long-standing thing but as someone who only watched the film I was confused about the significance of the animal heads and the tape worm, can anyone help out and explain?
Thanks guys :)
