I don't think the owners actually pay the $$$
to these employees. I think because it's a TV show, the sponsors are paying (or the production company through the sponsors).
shareto these employees. I think because it's a TV show, the sponsors are paying (or the production company through the sponsors).
shareI never thought of that, but I would suspect you are right. I also think the employees or atleast most of the employees have an idea what is going on.
How could so many people have these "incredible sob stories".
My thoughts exactly. I'm especially curious as to why these employees share their deepest secrets with somebody they've known for one day. That's what I hate about reality shows. I enjoyed the first couple of episodes of the show until I realized how procedural it was.
shareI used to think that too, but one company recently went under shortly after they were featured- can't remember the name, but they created guitars or drums, something like that. Anyway, in the coda at the end of that episode, it said the company was still going to try to honor the financial terms that they had given the workers, even though they were filing for bankruptcy. That really made me doubt that CBS or the sponsors pay for the vacations, etc. Plus, there have been occasions where the CEO made it a point to say "this will cost our company $200,000" or "I will personally give you $20,000 to help you buy a car." I don't think they would say it that specifically if it weren't true.
shareI believe you're referring to Peavey. If I'm remembering correctly, one of the plants featured on the episode downsized considerably.
shareThe CEO's go on these shows more for the publicity.
I'd imagine CBS tells them it would be nice if you did some charitable things at the end at the end of the show.
Small price to pay for an hour long commercial on a major network.
That is not true. There were couple of business that did not pay a dime to the employees at the end. All they did was say "We will bring back this program" or "we will get you the tools" and left it at that. Some companies go out of their way to help employees.
What I would like to see more of is actually giving back to their franchises. Instead of giving an employee like "$50000", give them like $10000 and help raise the rates for all their employees nationally. It sucks when you are not a part of the luck of the draw and get paid $50,000 just because the CEO had come to your place during his visits.
Better watch out, better start crying. Better hurry up, run and hide. Krampus is coming to town! >:)
