Hooters, Twin Peaks, Tilted Kilt, Bikinis and other "breastaurants"...

I'll be honest, I'd rather eat at Mel's Diner than any of the "breastaurant" chains featured on UB. I also fail to feel sorry for any of the women who work at such establishments and complain about being demeaned. You choose to work at a place that is all about your appearance and your....how to say this delicately?.....boobs! That wasn't exactly delicate, but that's what these places are about when it comes down to it. I'd so much prefer to eat at an establishment that's about the food and friendly customer service than any place that's mainly about cleavage and the waitresses' physical appearance. Work at Hooters or Twin Peaks, don't complain that customers are looking at your hooters or twin peaks...it's what the chain is about, regardless of what the CEO may claim.

reply

I don't think any CEO thinks it isn't about the 'twin peaks.' I just think the CEO of bikini's is man enough to come out and say it as opposed to being politically correct about it.

That's how those places are. Or, let me put it another way, I've eaten at plenty of non-breastaurants where the food wasn't all that good and the customer service sucked. Not just diners, but in established places where you'd expect more.

I avoid those body-themed restaurants. They're degrading & quite candidly, stupid. They even have one for men too now & it's called Tallywackers, which is the male counterpart to Hooters. I don't view these restaurants as appropriate eating establishments. When men say they're going to Hooters for the wings, then something tells me they're lying. I also agree w/you about women complaining about feeling degraded. They can easily work as waitresses as upscale family restaurants where they're work is based on their customer service skills and NOT on their attire, or lack thereof.

They've got a bunch of different flavors - not just mild, medium, hot and extra hot. The wings are also inexpensive. Plus, they have dozens of screens so you can watch a bunch of sports at once.

Then why don't they go work at those places? Maybe because they know they can make more money by jiggling around in those outfits than they can working at Applebees or Red Lobster.

That isn't degrading. That is a choice. No one is forced to work there. If you think otherwise, then please contact the Dept. of Labor to help out that person.

It's degrading to the women because they're NOT using their brains. Since you don't think it's degrading to women, then why don't more men work at restaurants wearing less clothes? Simple because men are smart enough to realize that firstly, men need to be fully clothed and secondly, because they're smart enough to know that they're NOT going to degrade themselves by using their bodies instead of their minds for work.

Why the women don't go to Red Lobster of Applebee's or Taco Cabana or On the Border, or TGI Friday's is because they'd rather degrade themselves @ inappropriate restaurants.

My joke ✈ right past your head! My point is that men are more likely to go to places like those aforementioned because they're NOT going for the food. Personally, I don't care who wants to go to those places. I just know I'd NEVER go to those places to eat because they're inappropriate & I doubt the food is any better than elsewhere. The boneless chicken wings are the best at Wingstop, anyway. I'll NEVER go to a themed restaurant where people's bods are on display. It's just nasty and makes me vomit.

By that "logic" then it would be degrading to women if they were hired for a job because of their smaller framed bodies. Like if a company hired mostly women because the average height of a woman is 5'4" and they are required to work in a space only 5'6" high.

Since you don't think it's degrading to women, then why don't more men work at restaurants wearing less clothes?

Wow. It is pretty sad when you can't even remember what you wrote just a few hours ago.

So what you are saying is that there are no strip clubs that hire men? Or are you saying The Chippendales are no longer in business?

because they're smart enough to know that they're NOT going to degrade themselves by using their bodies instead of their minds for work.

I dare you to walk up to a laborer holding 'Stop/Slow' sign in a construction area and tell them they are degrading themselves since they are using their body instead of their mind for work. Say that to a Teamster working the assembly line for one of the Big 3 in Detroit.

Why the women don't go to Red Lobster of Applebee's or Taco Cabana or On the Border, or TGI Friday's is because they'd rather degrade themselves @ inappropriate restaurants.

Thank you for admitting that it is a choice, and therefore is only degrading if a woman chooses to feel that way about it.

My joke ✈ right past your head! My point is that men are more likely to go to places like those aforementioned because they're NOT going for the food.

Your point isn't valid. If they didn't serve food at those places, people wouldn't go as much as they do. People who go to bars simply to drink won't go to places that cost a little more just so they can see jiggles.

I just know I'd NEVER go to those places to eat because they're inappropriate
...for you. And that is fine you feel that way.

The funny thing is, when I was dating my wife she was always telling me to have an open mind about things. Then, one night after a baseball game, I turned the tables on her about going to Hooters. She objected at first, but then gave in because it would have been hypocritical.

Once there, she laughed and said that she sees more skin when she works out at the gym at school. We've gone there lots of times because she isn't uptight about stuff like that.

What's also funny is that we've gone to the beach in Florida several times. We usually hit a tavern on the beach when we get hungry. You would cr*p your panties at all of the women who walk in off the beach and sit there eating in their bikinis.

I doubt the food is any better than elsewhere.

Don't know unless you try.

I'll NEVER go to a themed restaurant where people's bods are on display. It's just nasty and makes me vomit.

In effect, I'm saying that men who choose to lose their clothes like The Chippendales, or even @ Tallywackers are degrading themselves in the same way that women are who choose to work @ places like Twin Peaks, Hooters, etc. Additionally, MOST men aren't strippers nor are they working @ scantily clad restaurants like Tallywackers. You'll find that more women than men are degrading themselves to make moolah and that's simply sad for anyone, who chooses to use their bodies instead of their brains. That's my main point. 

There. That is the most important word. It is their choice. And, they can choose to feel it degrades them or they can choose to not feel like it degrades them.

who chooses to use their bodies instead of their brains.

You conveniently skipped all of this.

By that "logic" then it would be degrading to women if they were hired for a job because of their smaller framed bodies. Like if a company hired mostly women because the average height of a woman is 5'4" and they are required to work in a space only 5'6" high.

reply

They're degrading themselves whether they "feel" like they're degrading themselves or not, though, because the male customers are gawking @ them and NOT there to simply eat, but to look @ the women. The women are seen as objects rather than as waitresses. That's my contention.

reply

Not your place to judge how other people feel or to tell them they should feel degraded.

reply

true, but by definition, someone allowing themselves to be objectified is degrading. just like someone who lacks morals, by definition, is immoral. it's not a value judgment as much as it is a fact that when someone is allowing their bodies to be objectified, then they are, in effect, degrading themselves.

reply

It is all subjective. I only watched an episode or two of Wife Swap. One Manhattan socialite wife had to go live with a family in some rural area. That wife was MORTIFIED by having to clean a toilet. She felt it was degrading to her to have to clean someone else's urine stains.

Knowing that I've been up to my shoulders pulling sh!t (literally) out of sewer pipes, I don't find using a toilet brush on a strangers toilet to be degrading.

I won't say that I believe them, but I've seen interviews with strippers and prostitutes who say they don't feel they are being degrading. Maybe they don't - who knows if they are telling the truth. 

I've also seen an interview with an intern who worked for celebrity who felt degraded because the celebrity made them take the seeds out of the watermelon so the celebrity could eat it while they were in the recording studio.

It is all subjective and not your job to tell anyone what is or isn't degrading to them.

reply

most people would find using your body inappropriately as being degrading.

reply

And it is still subjective. Was it appropriate for me to be sticking my arms in to sewer pipes to literally clean sh!t out of them?

How about if the servers are all from countries where women all swim topless? How about if the servers all grew up in nudist colonies? They would be wearing more clothes than normal, so that wouldn't be inappropriate.

While opinions are subjective, we base our laws on what's deemed moral, at least, typically and if walking around like a nudie was both legal and appropriate, then the majority of civilized society wouldn't object to it. Your comments are out there. 

Sticking your hands in raw sewage when you're wearing protective clothes & gloves for a job isn't degrading because it's NOT demoralizing. Conversely, prancing around, though, in skimpy shirts and shorts; however, is deemed degrading in American culture because parts of the waitress' body are being exposed and while it's an eating establishment if people were ONLY going there for the food, then they wouldn't need to resort to wearing skimpy outfits. I mean would you want your grandmother or mom to go with you to Hooters, or your boss if she were a woman? Probably not. Typically, men disrespect women, who lack self-esteem and there's plenty of other waitress jobs out there that don't require you to degrade yourself on the job. Women should empower themselves and they lose power when they degrade themselves for a waitressing job that requires them to wear inappropriate attire. That's my whole contention. Incidentally, I'm just going through my past messages & editing some of them, and I noticed I didn't adequately answer you last time. 

Says you. I know people who were disgusted by using a toilet brush to clean their own toilet. Also, who said I had proper protective clothing?

Either way, it is SUBJECTIVE.

I've never received good food at Hooters. And their wings are the nastiest that I have ever eaten. As far as the others, I haven't been to those restaurants.

I had only went to Hooters because those were work trips and the restaurant was only about two miles away.

reply

To each their own.

In the words of Chris Rock, "titties and tater tots don't mix." I am no prude and have been to more than my share of nudie bars but I don't eat there. I would rather have a good meal and avoid the breasts. Time and place for everything. Besides the waitresses in these breastraurants are as phony as strippers.

reply

I don't know many nudie bars which actually serve food. And, the ones that do, are pretty clear that food isn't the main draw. It is just a way to get you in there/keep you in there.

Besides the waitresses in these breastraurants are as phony as strippers.

Some. Not all. The thing is, those women will work other places as well and still be phony. At least in places like this we get to enjoy the best things about them. 

reply

What do you all think of this as a restaurant concept? - A sports bar/restaurant with a name that is not a double entendre. It would hire friendly, attractive waitresses to serve guy food while wearing the kind of shorts and t-shirts that college girls wear to class.

reply

I think it is a FAILED restaurant concept.

Lots of places have cheap beer.
Lots of places have cheap wings.
Lots of places have TV's to watch multiple shows.

None of those places bring in the crowds the way breastaurants do, and for a good reason as well.

reply

The women in the "breastaurants" are the bait on the hook to get a lot of male customers to keep eating there. Like someone else pointed out, a lot of places have great food, and a lot of places have TV's where you can watch sports, but "breastaurants" bring in a whole other appeal to a certain group of men.

reply

As someone said it's not like the women are showing anything over the top. They are wearing shorts and a tight top. Women patrons at the bars and such show much more skin so I don't think it's degrading. If they can get better tips for having a sexy outfit on, then go for it.

I have only ate at Hooters twice but I always get take out wings. I always see women eating there, even kids. Someone mentioned eating at stripper bars. Higher quality stripper bars have some of the best food you'll find. I used to go to 1 that I lived close to all the time just for the quality of their steaks and lunch specials.

reply

I've seen them have kids birthday parties at Hooters before. 

reply

I think both of you are right.
Not long after the Great Recession started there was a semi-serious newspaper article on the "Hot Waitress Index" of the economy. That is, you can tell when the economy is declining by the number of attractive waitresses on the job. As employers can afford to be more selective, restaurants will hire only the prettiest waitresses hoping that they will bring in more business!

reply

My niece used to work at "Hooters". If she didn't like it, she didn't have to work there, she was free to work anywhere she wanted to. However, she made a WHOLE LOT of money. Huge money compared to what other waitresses at similarly-priced more family-friendly places made.

So in the end it was her choice. She did it for a number of years, cashed in, then when she got married and her military husband was relocated, she quit Hooters. Then after a while she had a kid and now she's a stay-at-home 20-something mom.

She never felt as though her job was degrading. She felt some customers degraded her and her co-workers, but she said that those were by far in the minority. Most of the time she considered her job fun, easy, and very profitable.

reply

The HOOTERS in my horrible town shut down...a lot of the girls had black eyes or were pregnant.
