Just because she didn't treat her waitressing job at a knock-off Hooters as a career choice. Does anyone? You can't be a company that doesn't pay squat, even to people who have been promoted (like Henry, the kitchen supervisor) and expect people to treat the job as more than a temporary solution. I think that Hooters even realizes that being a Hooters girl is just something fun to do while you're young and hot to make a few bucks. I've never heard of Bikini's and it already doesnt seem to be doing well.
I finally got around to watching this episode yesterday, and I wanted to comment about the legality of firing Jessica. I worked in Texas for years, and it's a "fire at will" state. In other words, an employer can fire anyone, any time, with or without cause, and that's that. There is no recourse on the employee's part. The ONLY exception is if they can prove that the employer violated some federal anti-discrimination law, such as firing them because they're black or because they're in a wheelchair. Otherwise, your job is only as secure as the mood your boss is in that day! (And I was a boss, but I only fired for good reason.)
I agree with you about Texas being a "fire at will state." Because Arizona, California & Florida are all categorized as "right to work states." Which is essentially the same as any employer can and will terminate any employee at any time without giving that individual any notice to do so. Just thought to share with you.
I finally got around to watching the Episode and I have a few things to say about it. Now I've not yet been to a "Breastaurant" since there aren't any where I currently live, but they are on my to-do-list for the future.
1) Of all the featured "Breastaurants" in the Show, this has got to be the worst. Bikini's came across as the sleaziest and cheapest of the lot. The girls were also not exactly "the most beautiful women in bikinis" as the CEO wanted it to come across.
This makes Hooters seem like a Family Friendly Place to go after Church on Sunday. Regarding the ambiance again it came across as extremely cheap. If you look at Twin Peaks, they have their "Mountain Lodge" theme, Tilted Kilt has it's Celtic Sports Pub theme, and Hooters is well Hooters. Besides having girls in cheap looking bikini tops, there didn't seem to be much of a theme within the bar/restaurant.
And the girls, well I have to say that none of them were real knockouts. If one looks again at the other featured Breastaurants: Twin Peaks and Tilted Kilt really had some stunningly beautiful girls, whereas I found that Hooters does well in bringing across that "all-american, girl next door" look of the girls they hire. The Bikini's girls, didn't really look that hot, and even the "uniform" didn't really help to compliment their "assets".
2) The CEO came across as a total *%%/&?! This guy was so full of it and himself that it wasn't even funny anymore. Where as Coby Brooks (as well as the CEOs of Twin Peaks and Tilted Kilt) came across as human beings, who do care about their employees and business, be it acted or not, this guy didn't. He is extremely removed from any sense of reality. All he seemed to care about was having a place where one could ogle over young women in the cheapest bikini tops. Yes, the other "Breastaurants" obviously also have the female breasts as a selling point, but the whole package is more appealing in those, and in the others I get a sense of a certain playfulness about the whole thing both from Corporate as well as from the girls. He was also extraordinarily cheap. A minimal raise to the guy who brought consistancy to the kitchen, a health-care plan for the female manager, and yes he did offer to pay for new boobies to that one girl (but only after she "performs well for the next 6 months).
3) Firing the Bartender I just think that whole thing was handled poorly. Regarding her not wearing the Bikini, she did mention that it was only because of the TV Show. Fine, maybe she could've refused to appear on the show, though since she was working there to make ends meet perhaps she couldn't. He could've checked up in private (perhaps on the phone) with that locations management later as himself to verify wether it was a regular occurance with that particular girl. Overserving the patron might've been a bigger issue, but I also think that the editing did a lot to make it seem like she continued to serve him over a long period, while it did appear to me that they replayed some parts of it a few times. If it had been only the overserving issue, again maybe an offer of retraining her on the issue would've been more appropriate. Her lack of passion... well yes she admitted to the guy that this wasn't her life-long dream and that she was looking for something else. But did she lack passion when interacting with her guests? 'Cause from what I saw she did seem to make sure that her guests did have a good time, and had a friendly public face there. The CEO did seem a bit taken back when she just left and didn't take him up on his offer to get her resume around. In that instance he came across as extremely removed from reality with a face that was like "what? did I say something wrong? what's her problem?"
4) Offering to get the other girl boobies. Really? OK, it's something she says she wants and maybe it's not that bad of a gesture. But then there's the condition that she has to "perform well over the next 6 months". And, I ask myself, since the chain pretty much imploded in the weeks and months following the airing of the Episode, did she ever actually get those new boobies? Or was she out of a job before the 6 months ended because her location closed before that time? Or did he even uphold that offer since Corporate surely knew they were about to close down most locations?
1) When my friends and I go to one of these places, either I go in by myself, or I wait until everyone else is in first. Then we give it the "all is good" text or "find a different table". The reason is because whenever we all go in together, we always end up at a table with a "token." A token fatty. A token "plain" looking one. A token "A" Cup waitress. Or, my favorite...the one who has her little sister helping out because their mom had to work today.
And, we've established that it is me. When they go on their own, they get the college volleyball player, the one who was on the Hooters calendar, etc.
3)
Fine, maybe she could've refused to appear on the show, though since she was working their to make ends meet perhaps she couldn't.
I have to disagree with this. Setting aside the whole, "This is all staged BS for ratings" aspect of the show, she wanted to be on the show to make extra $ but didn't want to dress like she normally would.
And, the way he fired her (again, it is all staged BS) should have been handled better. He should have opened with 'trying to help you find a different job' rather than 'you're fired.'

In all fairness...she didn't have as much control over that intoxicated patron as she should have. Combine that with him also seeing that she didn't like to wear the work attire, he realized this was someone who would bring down morale so he let her go.
