I think she really had seen Jason earlier, but he had left by the time she finished with Peter's nonsense and chased after him.
We were free to interpret that any way we wanted, but Jason could have just gone for a coffee while he waited for her to finish. Too many people assumed he had abandoned her, which was not necessarily the case. And when she turned back to where she came from, it was just to leave, NOT that she was "going back to Peter" like some hoped she was. She did that for far too long already, in my opinion, and he really wasn't worth it at all.
In fact, one interpretation of the ending was that, because she had stupidly chosen to stand by Peter yet again, it cost her another man who loved her, a friend she worked with who felt she had thrown her husband under a bus to shield Peter, and possibly even her job.
Robert King has always said the title was meant to be ironic, and the irony was that, in standing by the dirtbag who had cheated on her so many times, she ended up losing it all.
