All of the contempo songs used as background are incredible, and really apt -- they enhance the mood of the scenes without being overwhelming. Highest marks to the music department.

No disrespect intended to David Buckley, who is a good composer, but I'm talking about the music department -- the people who chose contemporary songs by not-so-well-known artists for use in the background, such as "Give Up the Ghost" in 3-10 (Will and Kalinda talking about commitment, in a bar) or "Luv Song" in S2, when Kalinda vandalizes Blake's car. The choices were always apt and moving without being intrusive.

Haha, okay, I see, we talked passed each other - that's what I meant by my last sentence in the earlier post - but I misunderstood the direction of your post.
I also loved "Luv Song" in the scene you mentioned from season 2 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J51Mpwbn4pg) - it so perfectly matched the car alarm! My other favourites are from season 3 when Will leaves the office after he was disbarred from the law (Azure Ray, "Seven Days", https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zh_1dQMtll0) and a background song in the bar when Kalinda and Cary were about to hook up in season 5 (Jenny O, "Well OK Honey", https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3X9nLHct0nY). I've never heard of both of these bands/musicians before, and I'm glad I was introduced to them via TGW.
By the way, regarding the music deparment: If I remember correctly, there was an interview with the Kings around season 2 or 3 in which they said that their kids (or kid?) were often the one's who suggested the contemporary music that was intergrated into the show in the early seasons. I don't remember the exact details very well (and I just tried to find the interview but couldn't find it), but it seems that during the early seasons there wasn't really a music department for the show. Which makes the choices even more remarkable, I think.

Would you happen to know the song that plays when Cary kisses Kalinda in Death Row Tip?
I just watched episode 3.08 (Death Row Tip (2011)) to listen to it again. You do mean the music that plays 45 seconds in the background during their kiss and Cary leaving the room right before the end of the episode, correct? I don't think that's a specific song recorded by a band/musician and used by the show. I think that's a sound piece by composer David Buckley originally made for the show.
I'm not sure this is published anywhere, but you might find this on the soundtrack album he/the show published in mid-2014. Although, this episode aired in 2011 the first time, so it's not very likely you'll find this specific song on it. But I can't definitely say, 'cos I never listened to the whole soundtrack, only to several parts on youtube (for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fru7I9ZJvn4).

I'd like to salute the genius who decided to put Tally Hall's Mucka Blucka (chicken song) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTP4hZRFsUo on an episode and have it be incorporated in the episode as an important part of it. That was genius
