The End.

What happened? They did not build up to this ending. After seven seasons of watching the creation of a multi layered woman, we end up with an isolated, calculating and cold-hearted Alicia that has cut off every tie with anyone she ever cared about(Peter, Diane, Jason etc.)?
We must believe that Alicia blew up her job and her chance to be a name partner with a friend, pretty much destroyed Lucca’s job, destroyed Diane’s life and ensured that she’d be alone at the end just so she could make sure Peter would serve only a year or two in prison(and he got probation after all)? She sucrificed everything for PETER. I am confused with that ending. I really liked this season but it just did not properly build up to the finale the Kings wanted.

I don't think she did it for Peter. I think she thought she'd never be free if Peter went to prison. She wanted Peter to be free so she could leave him without guilt.

Their divorce should've happened a long time ago so that part felt organic to me.

I wouldn't say that Diane and Alicia were friends, just good colleagues that did a lot of business together.

Alicia has started over so many times that I doubt that her not being name partner will be that big of a deal with her.

I don't think she would've stayed with jason in the long run anyway. I think he represented the notion of new prospects and helped push her to make the secession to leave Peter and finally move on with her life.

I sure hope she did, but sure took her long enough to get a clue. I spent the entire seven seasons waiting for her to ditch the dirtbag and move on, but she kept making the same bad choices over and over. It was really exasperating to watch. I started to think she was really just asking for all the heartbreak that was waiting for her.

As I saw it, there were at least five different guys she met who would have been far better for her than the rat she had married, but she kept wasting the opportunities. Some people can't bring themselves to admit they've made a mistake, so they keep hanging on, long after they should have LET GO.

Of course, a woman doesn't necessarily NEED a man in her life -- but if she's going to have one, it should at least be one who will be good to her and won't cheat on her multiple times while she's waiting faithfully at home.

I was a bit confused by the ending too but in the case of Diane I thought that Alicia was right. It was Diane who put Kurt on the stand to testify and later she decided against it because of her personal interests but not the interests of her client. No matter which way you see it, Florrick was looking at maybe ten years in prison so whatever Alicia still felt for him or not, she knew that as his lawyer Diane should have done everything to protect him.
Either way it was complicated. To me it seemed like an episode that could have had a follow up episode. It didn't seem like a final episode. I was sort of scratching my head when it was over, still having too many questions.

I was disappointed it ended so abruptly. But I decided to re-watch the whole series and came across something interesting. The last episode ends almost identically to how it begins. The same shots (hand holding), the same hallway, the slap.

I'm glad I am not the only one who noticed this!
