She is unlikable

Ok so I watched the first season and I can't get over the fact that she didn't divorce her husband to begin with.

Sure, there are empowered female characters (Lockhart is a favourite) and they try to portray Alicia as one. And I would understand that you need a while to think, but to actually consider staying with a man who brutally betrayed and publicly humiliated her and their family makes her the opposite of empowered.

I can't like her no matter how much the show tries to push her on the audience. I actually like every other character more than her.

She is mostly a stif person who never shows a reaction or emotion. She even walks like a semi robot. In most critical situations she is not able to act quickly. The scenes with her children are painful to watch as she really isn't warm toward them. Alicia's character says everything, even "hello", as if it is a matter of fact and she is unrealistically righteous. A classic goody-two-shoes with a general condescending air about her. The passive aggressive type, as opposed to Kalinda who is tough in a good way. All in all not impressive.

On top of this the show is a bit bland for my taste. So I don't think I'm watching season 2. Surprised about all the 9-10 ratings on this page.

Anyone else find themselves constantly questioning the plot and the character build up around Alicia?

I couldn't have described Alicia more accurately than you did. Totally agree. I like the show but I don't like Alicia. And I love to hate her. I'm watching season 4 and every time you think this character will grow, she manages to disappoint me.

My favorite us Diane.

I kinda gave up on this show around season 3 or 4 (not exactly sure) so I do agree that it gets a bit dull after a while.

But getting back to your main question, I'm not sure anyone is really suppose to like Alicia. I never really did, that's for sure and it wasn't just because she stuck with the cheating husband but the overall aloofness and coldness you described makes it hard to warm up to her.

In my head I've always equated Alicia to a highly fictionalized version of Hillary Clinton (I'm sure there were parallels that the showwriters themselves encouraged to a degree). Say what you will about Hillary, but I don't think likeable is the first thing that pops in your head when thinking about her (this is not a digg at Hillary, btw. just an observation). Respected, sure, admired, of course but liked ... not really.

At the end of the day, I stuck it out with The Good Wife more for the court drama, Will, Eli Gold and Diane (she was my favorite).

Kalinda, again, I didn't really like. I just think she was too mysterious for her own good. I mean a little mystery is good but if I get to season 4 and I don't know a character significantly better than in season 1, then I lose interest. I just feel like the writers are toying with me for no reason.

I don't like Alicia, but I'm going to defend her. She's naturally introverted, which means she isn't going to be someone who frequently shows her emotions or open up around people. I don't think that makes her unlikeable. I do agree that she eventually became cold/aloof, but after she became a casualty of her husband's scandal, it's understandable. She had to toughen up and develop a backbone, otherwise she was going to be eaten alive.

I also don't see how Diane or Eli any warmer/more personable than Alicia.

I see that my perfectly legitimate message was deleted by some idiot "administrator"! (Where are they finding these people?)

Like I said, fascism is taking over the U.S., and "free speech" is being stifled more and more.

And Herr Trumpf hasn't even been sworn in, yet. It will only get worse.
