does sheen believe in heaven at end?

As I wAS watching this last night, I wasn't sure if i was missing something. When he sees estevez in the church at the end, does that symbolize that he believes he will see estevez in heaven? Like estevez isn't really dead, but is with him. It looked to me like estevez was looking at him almost like approving him and communicating to him.

This vision has no more significance than the other 6 or 7 times he sees Daniel along the way. Not sure why you would jump to "now he believes in heaven" from that.

Also, I don't understand the general message board comments about the father not being religious. Irreligious people don't cross themselves, which he does several times, including early in the film.

Exactly,I agree with you on that one.Martin Sheeen's character is not a practising Catholic anymore but that does not mean he does not believe in God anymore and a afterlife etc.. much like myself

Yeah, I though the crossing himself was the only point where the movie was overdone,
but not by much - they had to do something, Tom, Sheen's character had to do something,
and I think that was more for the audience to relate to what he was feeling that it was what
that character as a real person would have done.
