Policia

I've never been to Spain, so I'm curious if the police there are really as rough and capricious as the ones in this film. I found it a bit jarring when they hauled Martin Sheen away roughly just for falling down from a combination of drink and exhaustion. And the way they shove Joost off the steps is pretty brutal. Has anyone encountered nasty local police in Spain?

No specific experience here, but to be fair, Sheen's character was getting unruly and publicly drunk, disturbing the peace, etc. And it's also true that cops in any town that gets a good bit of its income from tourism tend to lean pretty hard on public displays that leave other tourists with a bad impression of the place.

...however, I would agree the way they shoved Joost was a little much, especially when he falls down backward off a couple of steps, and no policeman steps out to be sure he's alright. That seemed a little like artificial movie drama. Might've seemed a little more real if they'd just had a cop putting a hand in his chest and keeping him from continuing to follow and protest.
