Why was Daniel wearing an orange jacket?

Supposedly his father was using Daniel's equipment since he came unprepared to do the trek. In most of the scenes his jacket is dark blue - never orange. Most of the times Daniel appears he is wearing a orange. Is that a goof?

I don't think that it was a goof.

I think that the orange parka was on Daniel's body in the morgue - and the father probably left it on the body.

The father's blue jacket looked new (complete with a North Face product placement!!!). I assume that he either purchased it before he left the USA or at the local town at the start of his walk. Not a goof.

Yeah I just gathered that the blue jacket was Martin Sheen's. While he needed to use his son's gear for the trek, there's no reason why he wouldn't have at least some of his own stuff...even if all that was was a jacket.

After all, he was traveling out of the country. Backpacker or not, most people would bring minor gear for such an occasion.

I don't think it was a goof, it appears to be quite deliberate on the part of the director who is using the colour orange as a motif. Whenever you see orange you are supposed to think of Daniel. It's like a musical leit-motif. Daniel, even though dead, appears to accompany Tom on his journey, and orange really makes his appearances stand out visually.

If you subscribe to this idea, what sense would you attach to the moment when Sarah (perhaps it was one of the other characters but I seem to remember Sarah prominent at that moment) gives Tom an orange for breakfast?
