Miniscule subtitles

What was the point of making the subtitles in this so small that they were all but impossible to read?

I haven't got a massive TV, but it's not exactly pocket sized either. I'm quite used to the sloppiness of many foreign lannguage films being badly subtitled (when will they learn that white letters on a white backgound are NOT legible) but when the subtitles are part of the original film, to make them as small as this is so irritating. Fortunately this is a quiet film so not much subtitlng needed, but when it was on, I had to lean forward to see what was being said.

I thought the same thing. Unsure if cuz the print was so small or they used a color that didn't stand out. Either way, hard to read.

Yeah it was almost illegible made worst due to my poor eyesight. They should've just created a subtitle stream like most dvds, those are easier to read are good size fonts.

I quite liked unobtrusive nature of the small subtitles. I recall making a mental comparison of the small vs normal subtitles and thought that the normal subtitles would have had a detrimental effect on the otherwise excellent cinematography.
