Because studios usually sit on unreleasable turkeys like this and either go straight to video or dump it into theaters on a weekend up against a huge blockbuster. This one is going up against The Avengers, but the executives are hoping guys drag their girlfriends to The Avengers only for it to be sold out so they'll let the girl pick an alternate, and are betting on that she picks this one. If it bombs, they blame the tent-pole it was up against and drop the Blu-Ray next week. If it makes any money they call it good counter programming. For a studio getting rid of a turkey like this, it's a win-win.
No! No! No! I will not stand for someone calling a movie with Gael GarcĂa Bernal a turkey. Why not even a limited release? I know the theater in the one horse town that I'm in wouldn't show it, but I'm sure plenty of people in big cities want to see it. This is even more annoying then when Children of Men was announced to be released only in limited theaters, it turned out to be a turkey for me but still let us have the option.
