The worst movie I've seen in this genre
How do you take the poignant subject of a young, sassy woman dying and somehow literally squeeze all the life out of it?..
Everyone in this is a stereotype and everything is a cliche...nothing and no one rings true or feels like anyone to relate to as a living, breathing human being.
It's complete fluff...
And humor? Nothing about it is the slightest bit humorous.
Take 50/50 as a dramady..It may not be my absolute favorite of them all but it somehow manages to be true and real and infuses honest to god humor into the most catastrophic of events. And it is very touching at times.
A little Bit of Paradise manages not to be funny but ironically does not take its subject matter seriously either. It's a complete dud and doesn't work on any level. I never felt one minute of sadness or empathy for this character. Clearly she and her kooky support group did not exist. I couldn't even pretend that they did.
I don't want to hate on Kate Hudson but it does seem to me that she chooses fluff after fluff after fluff...easy roles that make no demands on her. I do think she has potential (as we saw in movies like "Almost Famous") but almost everything I've seen her in since has alerted me that I'm better off avoiding her movies. They have a knack for being totally devoid of any substance.
And if I can't suspend belief..I'm not going to be entertained.
