No air power til end?

Finally saw Battleship. I enjoyed it but was wondering where was the air force all the time to attack the alien ships? It wasn't until the end that the air force finally attcks.

Did you sleep through the beginning of the movie? :) The aliens put some sort of forcefield around the area preventing anyone in or out.

During the final battle, the Missouri's main guns severely damage the Mothership, disabling the force field in the process and allowing the Admiral to send in the F/A-18 fighters.🐭

And then it was Australian aircraft. The USN was useless. Why didn't they maintain aircraft in the air, waiting for any disruption tot he force field?

They had to show that this was an international effort.
