He was "getting fired" because the fight with captain Nagata was the final thing on top of all the other mistakes he made since joining the navy.

I'm not certain we have to pay any attention who calls a game of soccer played in an American movie "football." And who can't discern the reason the American Navy would want to can an officer with a bad attitude and poor judgment.

How come you guys get annoyed when soccer is called football but then americans themselves call table soccer "foosball"?
(which comes from the german word Fussball=football)
