Too many characters

I get that they need to pad out a series, as opposed to a single film. Unfortunately, it just seems like too much padding. It's usually a bad sign whenever a concept is turned into a police detective drama, and while that's not the entire focus, it does bring the vibe down a lot. Years of bland police procedureals have made the addition of police characters a kind of blandifier to anything. Beyond that, it's just drowing out the story of the girl. This kind of story is all about her experience, and all the B, C, and D plots just drain from that.

Again, I get that this has to stretch as a series, but the only time the tone of the films is preserved is when the two kids are interacting. Sadly it recieves way too little time. Instead, we're dealing with a scientist plot, a crime plot, a police plot, and a father plot. The actress playing Elenaor is actually quite good so it's doubly a waste to spend so little time on her story. This might have worked better as a more tightly done limited series instead of trying to set up multiple seasons. As it is it feels more of a chore to watch just to get to Elenor's and Isiah's story.
